Dear Friends from all over the world,

 

IADS is offering you  an amazing opportunity – and this only made possible through SCORE, the Standing Committee on Research and Education! We recently have established the International Dental Research Program , a project  designed to offer dental students the possibility of doing research during the summer in  Dental Research Institutes or  Universities across the globe.

Therefore, we would like to  invite you to take this chance and apply to the SUMMER 2009 Dental Research Program at the University of Washington, Seattle,USA!!

Eligibility conditions:

·         Dental students, that have conducted at least one research project before.

·         Students from IADS member countries, that have no membership-fee-debts to IADS.

 

Application process:

STEP 1

The Students apply to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   by the 25th of December. They will send  their complete Curriculum Vitae, a Letter of Intention and a Letter of Recommendation.

 

Ø  The Letter of Intention should contain the students’ motivation to apply to the program .

Ø  The Letter of Recommendation should express the students’ experience in doing research.

 

STEP 2

The application will be evaluated by  an IADS Commission, consisting of the SCORE Committee Members and Professors from world-wide universities.    

STEP 3

SCORE will send the list with the selected students to the University of Washington. Only these students  will  get to contact the Department of Research from the School of Dentistry,UW  in January 2009 and apply to the program. This is when they will be put in contact with the preceptors from the desired field of dental research.  

STEP 4

Apply by submitting the application form required by the University of Washington before the established deadline (around the 1st of March 2009).This application includes a research plan that is jointly developed from January to March by the student and the preceptor.

STEP 5

The University of Washington shall decide if the students’ applications are acceptable for the program. This may depend not only on the student’s preparation, but also on the content of the research plan.  

 

              The student shall keep in mind that:

 

  • He  shall participate for the full 3 months during the summer of 2009 (mid-June to mid-September). This participation involves full time research work on the approved project, as well as attendance at and participation in a weekly seminar on research methods.

 

  • Will cover at his own expenses accommodation, travel and every-day costs.

 

  • He should be able to write a rigorous research plan, which he will develop  in cooperation with a preceptor from the UW (see STEP 3 of the Application Process)

 

·         If accepted, he  shall be appointed as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Washington, which does not require registration and tuition payment if academic credit is not needed.

 

·         Pay tuition if academic credits are desired.  Up to 6 credits can be awarded, at a rate of approximately $573 per credit.

 

  • The University of Washington shall provide them an allowance of $500 to cover the Research Expenses.

 

·         He has to write a report at the end of the period describing the results of the research. This report will be sent to the UW , will be published on the IADS website and in the IADS Newsletter and presented at the next IADS Congress.

 

·         Visiting students are offered the option of staying in the dorm short term while they look for other opportunities for housing. The 2008 price varied from $39/night/person for double occupancy room with no meal allowance to $100/night for private room with bath and a meal allowance.
