Introduction:
What are the dental services offered for people there in the rural areas? In every medical field trip we see thousand and thousands of patients. First they come to our outpatient clinic to be diagnosed and then type of treatment is then specified .so if we can offer this type of treatment then we refer it to our clinic beside the outpatient room. The clinics we have there are as follows Surgery clinic: simple extraction for teeth that well diagnosed as decayed or for people that can not go to the cities to get root canal treatments either for distance problems or due to financial problems .we do tones and tones of extractions and in many cases it is the first time for students to do extractions so they learn how to do it from the available dentists and at the same time they offer safe and free treatment to the people who appreciate what you do for them. Our dentists also can do simple surgical procedure like abscess drainage and other simple surgical treatments that can be done in the place. Perio clinic: Here we see patients with bad oral hygiene .we tell them how to brush their teeth, advice them and do manual scaling for them .we also do tones of scaling but more importantly the counseling that we give after treatment. Conservation clinic: We also take our portable chair with us .we also use the instruments we have to do simple fillings for some lucky patients. We can not do lot but in one day we can see and treat about twenty patient who come for fillings. Prosthesis clinic: We also construct dentures for some patients with one ore two teeth missing. So first we do selection upon patients and then take impression using alginate and then at the end of the day we do the trying and delivery. It is really great when you see the smile of the denture owner patients when they never dream that they can get such thing and we do it for them in one day for free, so you can imagine how happy they become. Health education group: During the day students are divided into groups. One of these groups usually goes to the schools or to the houses around the clinic place or around the village. They explain to the local people some bad habits that they used to do. Patients during their waiting for the treatment also gets some dental information done by students .the students also distribute some pamphlets to the patients .if there is no dentist in the village and there is a nurse who is doing the dentist work, then they train the nurse some dental techniques and tell him when to refer the patients to the capital or the nearest hospital. Student's pharmacy: We offer free drugs for patients like antibiotic and analgesics .so if a patient needs a drug after the dentist consultation then we prescribe it to him and he gets it for free from the student's pharmacy. What are the benefits that students and dentists get from these medical field trips?
Why to come to this medical field trip in Sudan? There are a lot of things that we think it really deserve you thinking about coming to this medical field trip:
We are taking and are so alert about the infection control measures so nothing to fear off about this issue. For your own safety it is better to be vaccined against hepatitis B as all our students do. It is all better to get your own lab coats to use them during the medical field trip Conclusion: I think this is enough to make you come and participate and see what you can do, yes this simple dental student and you simple dentists to people who have nothing rather than badly oral hygiene teeth to eat with. People need you because you are the safe hands that will save their teeth and lives.
